Step 1
Visa Process Overview
To work in Australia, you must hold a valid visa that allows you to undertake healthcare employment. The most common options we support are:
Skills in Demand (SID) Visa – Subclass 482
- Enables you to work in Australia for up to four years
- Requires employer sponsorship
- Includes options for family members to accompany you
- May lead to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme
Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) – Subclass 186
- Permanent residency visa
- Requires at least 12 months of employment and a successful performance review
- Must be nominated by your employer
Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme – Subclass 494
- For roles in designated regional areas
- Offers a pathway to permanent residency after three years
HealthX works with employers who are approved to sponsor and can help you understand which pathway fits your situation. For more detail on how we assist, visit How We Help with Sponsorship.
Step 2
AHPRA Registration Overview
AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) is the national body that manages healthcare registration across Australia.
If you want to work as a nurse, midwife, doctor or psychiatrist, you will need AHPRA registration.
The registration process varies depending on your country of qualification, clinical experience and professional history. It generally includes:
- Qualification and identity checks
- English language proficiency requirements
- Recency of practice evidence
- Criminal history checks
- Submission of required documents and application forms
HealthX provides hands-on guidance throughout your registration journey. For more detail, visit AHPRA Registration Support.
