About these opportunities
This page is for qualified nurses currently in Australia on a Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visa who do not yet hold AHPRA registration.
Without AHPRA registration, you cannot work as a Registered Nurse in Australia. However, the Subclass 417 visa allows eligible travellers to live and work in Australia for up to 12 months, including in care and support roles that meet visa conditions.
Opportunities may include Assistant in Nursing (AIN), Personal Care Assistant (PCA) and other support roles, primarily in aged care, disability and community settings. These roles can provide paid work while you travel and, in some cases, Australian workplace experience while progressing through the AHPRA registration process.
Roles are typically short-term or casual in nature and aligned with standard Working Holiday visa conditions, including limits on the length of time you can work with the same employer unless an exemption applies.
You must:
- Be in Australia on a valid Subclass 417 Working Holiday visa
- Be eligible to work under visa conditions
- Understand that these are not Registered Nurse roles

What Makes HealthX Different?
HealthX is an Australian healthcare workforce partner supporting aged care providers, disability services and health organisations across Australia.
We work with candidates who are eligible to work in Australia and place them into roles that align with their visa conditions, experience and legal scope of practice. For nurses on a Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visa without AHPRA registration, this means care and support roles only.
Our approach is practical and compliant. We are upfront about what work is and isn’t possible without AHPRA registration and focus on roles that are realistic, lawful and achievable for Working Holiday visa holders.
For full details on the Working Holiday (Subclass 417) visa, including eligibility and conditions, refer to the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs website.
